Bhutan Archery - strange Longbows

#1 Post by g_r » Thu Jul 21, 2011 12:02 am

Hi,
just stumbled across this vid:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lu7viu9n ... re=related

To me it seems like bows made out of two pieces connected with some kind of binding/wrapping in the middle.
Primitive 2 piece Takedown self bows?

Interesting , but i still dont know anything about it, perhaps someone has an idea.

Yep looks like two individual limbs overlapped in the centre. Strange.

Morning All.

Bhutan is probably the most Archery Enthusiastic nation on Earth. Plus they measure their country in terms of Gross National Happiness rather than Gross National Product

Two pieces of Bamboo bound together at the handle. By using two pieces you can get the bow to bend symmetrically which can be difficult if you use a single piece of bamboo as the diameter of the originating stalk changes, the node spacing change and the wall thickness changes as you move along the stalk. They are very effective, fun to make and relatively easy.
