Longbow Slo-Mo

#1 Post by GrahameA » Sat Apr 30, 2011 8:02 am

Morning All.

Just a well filmed short clip of an English Longbow being shot.

Note: the release, the fletches hitting the hand and the size of the amplitude of the oscillation.

Very Interesting though on the same page as you open Youtube there is a clip that even whows an arrow of the wrong spinage failing and breaking on purpose (judging by the hand guard the archer is using). they are from different angles as well and also shows the paradox on one shot bend the shaft enough that as it passes the archers hand it doesn't even touch the bow.

The next one of a Japanese? archer is unreal too. One would think the arrow was actually something alive as it literally snakes away from the bow.

–noun
1.
a statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth.
2.
a self-contradictory and false proposition.
3.
any person, thing, or situation exhibiting an apparently contradictory nature.

The "Archer's Paradox" is that it does not make sense in that you have the arrow point to one side yet if flies straight to the target. It could equally be called the "Archer's Enigma" (except we know the solution). This will explain more. http://www.meta-synthesis.com/archery/archery.html

Paradox has, recently, been subject to verbing which seems to becoming more coming (and I blame poor journalists). :D
