question on arrows

#1 Post by texx » Sat Apr 09, 2011 5:27 pm

just messing around with my jarrah board bow ( probably learning bad habits )
every now and then one or 2 arrows land in the target point up and tail down , i would like to know what causes this ,
will fletching get rid of this or is it cos i dont have a nocking point on my string and i am nocking slightly different with the odd arrow.
also shooting with my fencing ( barb wire ) glove on so could it be a release thing .
or all of the above .
see pic 10 pace target .

Johno,

I could be a combination of the things you mention but also it could be your target butt causing the problem; it looks like a bail made from fodder of some sort? There would no doubt be loose and more solid areas in the butt and every now and then one of your arras strikes a harder area which deflects it.

yeah jeff could be that although i think the arrows were hitting like that kind of dragging the tail low ,but i could be wrong on that .
and yep the target is some large ( not very good ) oaten hay bale's , baled pretty tight though.
might have a go at putting some feathers on tonight see how i go .
got to do some sooner or later , don't have a jig though .
i have a string coming with serving on and some string nocking point thingeez , should get them monday ,
hoping that will improve things a bit too

I reckon I would be tying a dental floss nock point onto your string then test again. Bare shaft with bum down on some arrows suggests variable nocking point. Get it right and make it permanent would be my attempt.

Its OK to make a mistake,
Just try not to make the same one twice.........
