Hi,

some might remember i had extreme difficulties getting my Bob Lee Signature Longbow quiet. I went through many brace heights, silencers, strings even arrows and nothing worked. I was already in the mood to say "Well, lets call it good, seems like i am not a longbow shooter and this one wont get quiet.."
Luckily JJ from Bob Lee Archery (who, along with many other being wiser than me, helped a lot)said i should try more different strings.

After a few more trys i finally am one happy guy!

An socalled Xcel string 16 strand with beaver puffs has made the bow perfectly quiet.
During testing the sound i didnt take notice of my groups, boy was i surprised when i saw my first one. Shot another one and another one and each looked like this (this is actually the secoond one, 18 steps):






So abig thank you to all who helped with advice and kind words during the process.

Youve read how lucky i felt yesterday, well at least it lasted one day.
After fumbling around for so long, i was finally able to shoot the perfect bow, and yesterday evening i noticed a crack in the riser. Had a nock exploding on relaese yesterday and i think that was the cause.
Though i am still hopefull its only the finish, it doesnt look good and i dont believe the bow can be rescued.
Bye Bye only bow at the moment! No money for a new one, i think ill give up now.

Looks like the riser g_r unfortunately. Hard to believe action wood could fail like that . Steve

I would say it is the riser fracturing also. I don't think I would want to be the person drawing it back. Sorry to hear mate and I hope you can get another bow soon.

Well, actually i shot a minimum of 30 arrows before i even noticed. Nothing happended or felt awkward, thats what keeps me hoping, send the pics to Bob Lee Archery and will wait what they say.

In the last photo it definately looks like a crack. Can you feel it with your fingernail?

It is a crack! I can feel it with my fingernail and i can see it open up when i bend the riser.

What poundage do you shoot mate I was just thinking of a way I might be able to help you out with the no bow problem.
I think I read in another thread you shoot heavier poundage but I do have a 50 pound Game Master 2 here I could let you borrow until you got yourself another bow.

That is a great gesture! and 50# would be my poundage...
But i have to deny. First the shipping back and forth plus customs would be worth a cheap Samick and
Second, there are some even if small good news. I was ordering a bow for a friend who wants to start shooting. It is a Marbow Longbow 70" 44#@28; My friend agreed that i will shoot this bow with the arrows i already made for him until i can find a new one for me. Word for word he sad: "Havent been shooting since 23 years (he is 23), doesnt matter if i wait a little longer to ruin a bow and loose those arrows."
A good friend he is!

Big big thanks again Kimall, but as stated above, not worth the effort with this emergency solution now.

Get yourself 3 or 4 bows .if anything happens you can all ways keep shooting .make you own strings plenty of finely tuned arrows .youre a good shot .it makes you happy .Magic arrow grouping there .

remember youre the one that got youreself a good bow and good matched arrows .and shooting great .
you can do it once. you can do it again . even better .Byron Ferguson look out

My sympathies in regard to the riser cracking on you, as Ben has suggested, you may be able to get a riser fairly easy from tradgang.
