Thanks for that, very much interested in spear hunting.
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

yeah, made one a couple of days ago using a piece of theick stick, small twig about piny finger thickness with an offshoot at about 45 degrees as aspur attathed with steel wire. doesnt work to bad but i have only used arrows, need to make proper spear, hard in my area.

Let us know how that goes, Bud. I reckon try some sort of low profile fletching on the spear at first, 'till your more proficient with the woomera. Do you think carving the peg from the handle, like it's all one piece, would make it stronger?

would be stronger, and look better, but just attaching one is easier. when i see vids of american peple making atlatls they always put feathers on. but most woomera spears i have seen do not. i will put fletchings on to help stabilise as i do need practise.

I use bone on the Woomera so that it can be replaced............I find that using fletches helps make a difference in regards to straightening the flight of spears with differentiating spine but once you have your action sorted bare shafted spears are quieter and quicker...........

Ah-HA! A spear hunter! Excellent! What sort of distance is your serious hunting shot? Much like Bowhunting? Man, we have much to discuss!
