Lightweight Bivybag
Well, I've bit the bullet and ordered a hammock, which means my almost brand new Aqua Quest bivy bag is up for sale. I've only used it 4-5 times - once weathering a shocking thunderstorm: some mates who came with me refused to bring a tent, and so at about 3am I woke up to some slight tap........ tap........ tapping on my bag and then bang-bang-bang-bang! as a giant thundercloud dumped it's entire load on us. Well, all I could hear beyond my waterproof skin (as I lay warm and dry) was screaming and yelling outside heheheheh... It's very light to carry... and works very well. My wife is making me sell it to make way for the new hammock.

Saul has been converted to a hammock by Butch at the same time as he has converted me to using one of these bivy bags.
It is like a mini swag Buford, if you stick a lightweight self inflating mat in it you are comfy and totally immune to the wind and rain.
I have always used a lightweight silicone impregnated nylon tarp for shelter but seeing how easy these are to setup since Saul has had this one has got me keen to get one. I would buy this one except I want a camo one.

Hey Buford,
No, it doesn't have anything to keep it from your face. It's never bothered me that much. You could easily buy a curved carbon pole and strick some rubber points on the end and run it through the loops to keep it off your face.
It's just so super light + waterproof. It means you can get your sleeping/shelter weight down very low. Combined with a .5kg sleeping bag, and a .3 ground mat, you can get everything down to 1.5kg. It's also VERY quick to setup - which is the only thing that I still may find frustrating with a hammock... we'll see.

NOT the only thing. Wait till I get you 'windmilling' one night. Do you normally spew on a roller coaster matey?which is the only thing that I still may find frustrating with a hammock

Hubris,
Obviously nice gear mate. Unfortunately lack of funds at present force me to continue lugging around my Macpac Ultralite tent. Its a good little tent, but it weighs twice as much as your bivvy bag.
How did you get on with the Magyar and the bivvy bag? Surely it didn't have to sleep outside by itself. At least there should be room for it in the new hammock.

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.
Mick, Mr.R... last time Tracker and I went out we could hear the dogs calling from all side so I kept Silvia (the bow) strung all night...(as I like her ) just hoping the cuddly pooches would decide to come and see what the good food smells were. Silvia will definitely be joining me inside the new hammock... just don't tell Kathryn... "what dear? oh... nothing... just typing on that stupid website again..."

Actually, Tracker and I are pretty boring around the fire. We both bring books and sit and read, or tracker might knit some [camo] winter booties, while I finish off some new doylies, or even do a little scrap-booking if the moon is in full
We'll get together sometime mate... it'll be fun

Gday Clingish,
No, I sold the bag. I used a sleeping bag with the bag most of the year, though in summer you could obviously get away without it - when you would sleep with the bag open ready in case it rained (and pigs flew by ).
They're great things. I would recommend them definitely - though I would prefer a hammock up north to stay off the ground and keep away the mossies.
