Mate, the castle is vast!!!!
The lower field is probably the size of 2 cricket grounds, which is what they mostly still play here!
Here is a couple more photos which give you a better idea.
Magnificent!

Thanks for the extra photos. It sure is huge!!! Imagine how far one could launch an arra from up on those walls. It looks like it was well positioned up there in case of unfriendly visitors.

Morning All.

Northumbria is a very interesting part of England/Scotland.

From an Archery viewpoint those who remember the series "Robin of Sherwood" Bamburgh Castle was used for a number of the scenes.

For the Bernard Cornwell readers Bebbanburg (old name for Burmburgh) is familiar.

As well the castle is not that far from Lindisfarne.

Lots of history there.

I was wondering if there were any plaques in bamburgh telling us whether Uhtrid ever gets back there to live :) yes I was expecting more Norsemen arnound too.
Beautiful places, I love how every continent does history differently.

I stayed in Newcastle with relations, my mum was a gordie, born in Railway terrace in Newcastle no less, and my dad was born in Hetton Le Hole, just outside Durham.
It was very much the "who do you think you are" experience for me, I have not stopped wanting to go back ever since. I often thought what I might have found if I had a metal detector.
