Early morning Archery practice. Note the Turk at the end, a Janissary. That is a Horn and Sinew Turkish bow and the archery was the builder. Very nice and it shoots fast.

Looks like a bit of fun in that last shot. That fella with the orange beard reminded me of Butcho (trash one) minus a few stone.

I had a great - but very tiring time. Watch out for upcoming TV appearance. I will try and get a contact for the Bowyer.

Will post a few more pics to provide "flavour"

Don't talk about it - do it. Start a an Archery re-enacting group in your area or join one. It will cost you less and put you on the other side of the fence.

It was fun and some people make it even more fun.

Nice photos,
I do like the idea of the hay bales behind the running pig. Makes for easy arra collection.

As always, great photos, thank you Grahame.

It was wonderful to catch up with some Traditional folks during the festival, though they be wearing some strange modern garments from foreign lands..... I caught up with Perry and his lovely wife Mandy, and also Mark from Toowoomba.

I gave Perry a mercy call Monday before Abbey, in a state of sheer elevated panic to show me how to sew on leather grips to the bamboo bows that Shane made to use at Abbey. (The bows were to be used the very next day for 'Kids Day' prior to Abbey weekend.) I was expecting/hoping that Perry would give me a quick tutorial and I'd be on my way. But I have since learnt the generosity of Perry and his family. Perry and I sat down for 9 hours on Monday, and hand sewed on the leather grips to 9 bows. I learnt a new skill from the Master, and enjoyed his knowledge and company. Thank you so much Perry.

Grahame made the blunt flu flus for us to use on the Range, (50 in all), and Steve (Wallace) supplied the strings for the bows too, so there were quite a few traditional archers there on the line with us at Abbey  .

We had passing showers during the weekend at Abbey, and though our equipment got a drenching, it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the public wanting to pull back a bow. They stood in the pouring rain for 20 minutes, waiting their turn. Now if that's not archers in the making, I don't know what is!

Those bows whee made from laminated Bamboo - similar to the material that Bamboo Floorboards are made from. Special Lightweight/Hard to break Kids Bows. Not suitable for ham fisted adults.
