Darn! You take a good photo!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

There are some superb shots there otis and I can why you wish for a macro lens. :smile: That lens you have is very sharp; is that still the 15-85mm? The depth of field you can get with it seems very shallow so that is why I am asking.

yes, stil the 15-85. f3.5 at wide open is fairly shallow. i also have a 50mm f1.8 but don't use it a hell of a lot.

Jeff,
a lot of these photos are taken close up at the full zoom (85mm) where the apeture closes down to f5.6.

But F5.6 at 85mm when close up to your subject is effectively a lot shallower depth of field than f3.5 at 15mm zoom close up. another reason i got a fast lens (wide apeture) is their ability in low light. Because they allow more light in and i have more room to play with my shutter speed and ISO. it's great for low light shooting.

i reckon you should add this one to your wish list. perhaps you could write to Santa :mrgreen:

Nah mate, what I have now is fine for me. I want longer at least 70 - 200 or the new 70 - 300 but the latter can't be used with a Canon converter.

On the subject of longer lenses you mentioned in one of your posts the 100 - 400 with 2X converter. I am certain that you will not get great results with that and even with a 1.4X the results maybe a bit iffy. There are rumours that a new version of this lens will be released early next year and also even a 200 - 400 but I think the prices will be high. :shock:

Somehow I don't think Santa will take much notice of any letters I write. :lol:

everyone warns against the 2x tele with most lenses, and the apeture on the 100-400 isn't proably low enough to suit the teleconverter but i have seen some great shots taken with that combo.....and i can't afford $15,000 for the 800mm :mrgreen:

my only concern is that it is a slide zoom and i'm not sure how much i like that.

i'm sure a new versin will be well and truely out before i'm allowed to have it anyway.
