new zealand 2011 ,
Its not the best photo ever , that's for sure ... but it means a lot to me ... its location is aside one of the mos tbeautiful rivers I have ever seen , just outside of Manapouri ... I had hunted the morning , looking for goats and rabbits ... coming back to my arranged meeting place to meet Liz , who waited riverside with a freshly laden picnic blanket , full of goodies ...

all this was the morning after we became engaged [ 10 years too late .... ... but we drank tea and had biscuits and I flung arrow after arrow into the mossy banks whilst she read her book in the afternoon sun .....
Was a very cool day ..... loosing arrows was never as relaxing , nor my accuracy never better than that day on the riverside .

Well, I don't know what a Poppinjay is, BM, but I do like that black-and-white of the tower shot, and the full-draw one at the log below! Nice work!

Poppinjay is just an old form of Target Archery where the targets are moutend of a high pole(tower). I like the photo for a few reasons apart from being visually interesting, e.g. the bow is a Saluki and you can see the arrow in flight.

The one below it is not a log but rather a boulder with the Archer on top of itand the photgrapher at the base of it. IMHO it is different an says something about Archers and Archery.

Medieval Archers - 100 Years War.

"The Hundred Years War" or the "War of the Roses" - a knights greatest worry. An English Archer in the forest and at that elevation the arrow is going to hit with a lot of force - armour is not going to be much help. That Archer is Archress (Kelly) at the 2011 Abbey Event.

Just to complete the ambush another archer is waiting to drop an arrow into the masses. The Archer is Michelle (Barlow?).

Grahame shooting his Hoyt Pro-Medallist.
daryl_photo_mono.jpg
daryl_photo_mono.jpg (52.54 KiB) Viewed 7044 times
The Bow is a Hoyt Pro-Medallist and the last production series of one piece Target Bows made by Hoyt - after this they are all take-downs with metal risers. In this particular case the bow is being shot with Wood arrows even though by this stage Aluminium Arrows were in use.
"And you must not stick for a groat or twelvepence more than another man would give, if it be a good bow.
For a good bow twice paid for, is better than an ill bow once broken.

I would find it very hard to pick the 'best' as they are all crackers. My personal narrow favourite may be the poppingjay shot as I always gravitate towards black and white having started art work with charcoal drawings, but so many tell their own story.
