Mountains heal my soul :)

#1 Post by Tuffcity » Mon Oct 17, 2011 6:33 am

I grew up hunting the mountains of the interior and they still have a special hold on me. Just back from another 2 weeks of hunting with the Mrs.- trying to find mountain goats for a few days then moved on to elk. Couldn't find a white beast despite hiking 20-30 km's a day. Guess they hadn't moved into their winter territory yet and the terrain was just too nasty to try and find them in their summer haunts. Any way, a few pics from my side of the pond.

This where we started looking for goats.

After 4 days the weather started to turn so we moved south to chase elk. Found animals but never a legal one (this time of year the elk have to have 6 points on at least one antler to be legal). The road out of the "goat patch" was washed out so we just drove up the flood channel instead.

Our elk camp was beside a premier trout stream... and of course I forgot my rod at home :(

What type of trout or fish do you get in the river you camped on ?
Great pictures as usual, thanks for posting them.

Mainly Cutthroat trout but there are whitefish, Dolly Varden and apperantly burbot - which is a fresh water lingcod.

Yes, trying to talk her into a bow for early season elk next year but she really likes her muzzle loader. :)

RC That is spectacular country alright. i am a keen muzzle loader shooter myself, when i am not bow hunting. I have never seen an otter before, but for some reason they remind me of my ferrets. Thanks for the pictures they would make great calendar pics...roscoe

Tuff,
the stuff dreams are made of for sure . Those pics absolutely get the soul stirring . Just to be able to go stump shooting there would be a great adventure ... as long as the Mad Trapper wasn't about .

Beautiful ... thanks for posting .

Roscoe- a little bigger than your ferrets, I think. Otter will run 10-12 kg or better.

UPTHETOP: always use another game packer in the fall. :) You any good at building garden ponds? lol

Mate always love your pictures, sure is some amazing country. I think I would spend my time being awe struck by its magnificence rather than hunting.

Thanks for the photos. It brings back memories, but it looks different without all being covered in six feet of snow.

It's a pretty good size beastie- can be a nasty one too if cornered. There is some beaver up there but not a huge population.
