Some more Cunnamulla photos

#1 Post by Stickbow Hunter » Sat Sep 10, 2011 8:18 pm

I took a few shots of some man made objects as well.

These old cattle yards have stood the test of time. A simple yet very effective method used in constructing them. Gidyea is one tough wood.

Keith and I were walking through some scrub and came upon these very old Sheep Yards.

I love these old gates.

The yards were constructed in a similar way to the cattle yards and you can see the posts and rails have just collapsed with age.

These last three shots are of the sunrise that greeted us on the road home. I'm not sure which one I like best so you can see the three of them.

Shooters get to 50m to shoot, but only a hunter gets inside 20m to hunt.

I appreciatw thew fact this didn't go un-noticed  :D

Nice work Jeff, how many times have you been on a trip and didn't get out the Camera? I fail too many times on too many occasions!

Great stuff Jeff, those shots of the old yards do it for me, there is something evocative about derelict man made stuff battling the elements in the out back.

very nice Jeff that looks great fun to hunt in such a good place and even just to be there.

That one with the wires in it looks like SWER (single wire earth return) it is used to provide power on the cheap to remote places.Maybe it is a phone line I dont know but the insulator is a bit of a telling sign.It is a dangerous system too cause once the earth electrodes corrode you can get zapped by just walking around.

Magnificent photos, Jeff, and thanks for popping them up!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

I love the blank & white shot Jeff - fantastic!

Thanks Jeffro - I've just learned something new - the owner of a cattle property that I've just been given access to, faxed me a mudmap a couple of weeks ago and he had a SWER powerline marked on it for navigation purposes...I had no idea what the SWER meant and was going to ask on my next visit! - thanks!
The best trophies I can hope to acquire as a husband, father, friend or hunter are MEMORIES!
They will travel with me wherever life's path leads...

Thanks fellas. Rod, I'm glad we stopped to.

Graydon you make a good point about how often we say that'd make a nice shot but don't bother stopping. In recent years I have been trying to slow myself down and do just that, stop and take the photo. It helps when ya huntin' mates don't mind waiting or give ya a hand too.

Thanks Gidget, I like that one too. I am really interested in a 70 - 300 for these trips but the piggy bank is empty at present.

I think I like the old cattle yard shot about the best also Paul.

Jeff, I honestly never gave power a thought and I do know what a SWER line is as I once worked (a lot of years ago) for the local electricity board. There is no power in this area, not even today and the nearest homestead (that had generated power) would have been at least eight kms away. The old phone lines did have insulators but the wires were usually smaller diameter so you have brought up something interesting and I will have to find out what the line was definitely for now.

Jeff
