Sunset whilst fishing at a reservoir. Pics of gorge added.
Took these yesterday.
This coming Friday, I will be exploring a ravine/canyon for fishing opportunities. Should make for some interesting pictures. BTW, I use numbered polarised glasses, if I were to hold them in front of the lens, would it distort the picture?
Thanks.

Great photos mate. Even though it has less colour I like the second photo the best.
I'm not sure about the glasses but it quite possibly will distort the image but ya never know unless ya try. I will look forward to the next lot of photos.

Thanks, Jeff. My camera isn't anything special (Canon PowerShot A720 IS) and it does not capture colours too well. Will give the polarised glasses a try. Cannot wait for Friday as this place is supposed to be beautiful but with summer in full swing and it being close to a historically draught ridden area, it may not reveal it's real charm. The heat is going to be something fearsome thanks to the rocks but I am all packed and ready to explore this new area. Roll on Friday.

Thanks, Rod.
Wayno, I wasn't in one of those 'chilled out' moods. It was more like, "let's get another fish or two whilst there is still some light left". Fat chance of that happening though. Had to be content with the two I had caught earlier in the afternoon. T'was one of those slow days but fun nevertheless.
Cheers!

Thanks Grunter.
Herewith a few pics of the gorge I visited on the 3rd.
To get to the gorge we had to go through an old fort (13th century I think) that had examples of old Hindu and relatively new Muslim architecture.
I am told this used to be the prison.
The granary.
Old Hindu temple.
The granary from the side.
First glimpse of the gorge. Got the pulse racing. Reputed to be the home of large fresh water sharks which are locally called Wallaga Attu or mulley.
There be cannons.
How the hell are we going to get down there carrying fishing tackle and provisions for the day?
Are my eyes playing tricks or is the river dry?
I don't believe it! Drove close to seven hours to get here. Will be back after the monsoons.
Inside the granary.
Step well.
Went to a reservoir nearby and spent a few hours fishing for mulley. Had a blank day but my friends got three and four mulleys apiece.
The teeth on a mulley.

What an amazing place! The ruins alone were worth the trip by the looks of it; thanks for the photos.
I laughed when I saw that the gorge was dry - sorry. Have you got a photo of a whole mulley?

As you rightly said, the ruins and the company were worth the trip. Those ruins would make for some dandy sunset pics.
I have lots of mulley pics but someone or the other is posing with them and I am not sure they'd care for their mugs being plastered on a bow hunting forum. Will e-mail a few and next time I get one, I will have someone take a pic of me holding one.

Rod, my pics are far from tops. I am primarily a point and shoot guy who takes pics for memory's sake. That particular fish weighed in at 8 kgs and isn't considered big for its species. Some info here - http://www.opefe.com/wallago.html
Ouch!
Jeff, I saw a lot of other smaller structures all over the fort complex but too far to capture properly with the camera. I do not know if one can camp here but it would make an ideal setting. During the night. During the day it is a veritable oven.
Gidget, attaching a couple of cropped pics that show the fish. Cannot recall their weights now but they were both sub-10kg fish. Trying to make it to the reservoir adjoining the gorge on the 25th. Fingers crossed.

Thx alot for sharing!
These fish look like a cross breed between a catfish (tail) and a salmon or trout (head) with whiskers. Very interesting! Do you only catch them with lures and spinners or also with deadbait or the like?

Hi g_r, they are predominantly caught with dead bait. Chicken guts and earthworms being hot favourites. I am sure live bait (fish and frogs) will work a treat as well but haven't seen them being used. There's only a few of us who use lures to catch them but it's so much more fun.
My tentative trip for the 25th is more or less confirmed for the 18th.
Here's hoping it does not rain.
