Photos of Big Pigs...!

#1 Post by Guy Layton » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:43 pm

Gday guys,

I thought I would post a picture of a reasonable sized pig I managed with a good mate while hunting with dogs a few years back...!

I was just wondering if anyone else has any pictures of good sized pigs they have taken...?

Cheers Guy...

This is the best one I've seen. He chased Tony 'round-'n'-'round, and caused Tony to reflect on bow draw weight and arrow weight, and make both heavier. This is how Tony earned his first Indian nickname, "Dances-with-boars".

Top pigs Tony and Ben.... they are good solid pigs indeed...!!! Ben, is the Widow longbow still getting around...?

Keep them coming guys...! I am sure there are loads of big pigs out there that haven't seen this forum...

Jeff, Hard to say what weight he went, I don't like to put figures down unless they have been put on the lie detectors  ..... I was running about 105kgs in those days, so that may give you an indication... My mate and I couldn't budge that pig an inch, we managed to cape it out to the back of the head and still we had trouble carrying it...!

As much as I loved hunting with the dogs, I would much rather see trad bow harvest these days.... 8)

Cheers Guy

Nice Boar Guy. I think the biggest we ever put through the box was 126kg dressed was back in the dog days as well. Just no photos to prove it but I think I still have the paper work around somewhere.
He's a photo of one of my biggest shot at about 5 mtrs.

Bear should have some crackers of some huge NT Boars, his just to shy to post them.

Hilly, that big is sporting some nice fangs mate, well done...!

Rock Steady, Big pigs, big fangs and big mobs all count mate...! What a ripper set... what did they score...?

Steve, This boar was on a well overdue sorghum crop... the farmer wasn't able to access this crop for two weeks and the pigs were just running a muck through it...!

Wayno, Awesome photo mate...! One of the better pictures I have seen with a bow.. well done..! 126 dressed is a ripper mate, apart from the pig I have already posted, the next best I have got was 140kg live, 122 dressed...!
I would love to see Bears pig photos..!

Here is the 122 dressed..

G'day Bear, and well-done! Has the Black Widow smacked any, yet? How did you go with the timber arrows? Cheers, Ben

gday ben, I have moved the widow on it just didnt sit as well as my huntsman in the bush but it was a nice bow. I have nailed a few good pigs with them woods. I will post pics as the articles they are in go to the stands and its a conflict of interest for me to post em up before being published. keep your eye out in bacon busters and territory fishing and outdoors mags for regular bear bowhunting stories.

Tony, I think most of us who have chased hogs long enough, have all done a dance or two with them...

Bear, Wow..! that is a solid hog mate... I have a mate living up that way and he frequently tells me about the BIG boars he sees... I will have to get up that way sometime soon... :D Is that the Huntsman your equipped with..?

Cheers Guy

Axel and Tomalophicon,

Yes guys they are beautiful dogs... the ones in the first picture are what some people call " Mountain Reds" which are a Dane, English Mastive X Airedale....

The hairy dog in the other picture is a Wolfhound X Staghound and probably the fastest hunting dog I have ever seen... the other red dog is a Mountain Red X Airedale.... She wasn't a real big dog, but great on the nose and could hunt all day... :D

Cheers Guy
