#1 Post by longbow steve » Sun Nov 21, 2010 3:24 pm

Found myself amongst some deer today(totally unexpected for us all :D ). Saw a big stag but didn't get the camera out in time. This guy new something was up but came into 30m to see whether it could make me out.

wow...a great experience. And a nice place to spend a day "wandering"!

Excellent! Lucky man! And lucky for us, you had your camera! :D

It was a strange encounter with the spiker, the wind kept shifting keeping me safe despite him traveling 180deg around me. At one stage I thought he was going to walk up to me as he knew something was there and wanted to know what .
Yes Paul, a beaut day to be out, 20deg and sunny rather than rain, rain and more rain like we have been having down here. Steve

Can someone confirm the species of deer for me? I thought it was a Red but images on the net show Rusa to have the pale front. Thanks Steve

For sure it is a red. Rusa deer have dark tails and don't have the pale orbit around their rump. You deer appears to have a pale orbit and a light colored tail

If you aren't interested in antlers he is the perfect eater too, or at least he will be in a couple of months after he has put on some weight.
