Found myself amongst some deer today(totally unexpected for us all ). Saw a big stag but didn't get the camera out in time. This guy new something was up but came into 30m to see whether it could make me out.

It was a strange encounter with the spiker, the wind kept shifting keeping me safe despite him traveling 180deg around me. At one stage I thought he was going to walk up to me as he knew something was there and wanted to know what .

Can someone confirm the species of deer for me? I thought it was a Red but images on the net show Rusa to have the pale front. Thanks Steve

For sure it is a red. Rusa deer have dark tails and don't have the pale orbit around their rump. You deer appears to have a pale orbit and a light colored tail
If you aren't interested in antlers he is the perfect eater too, or at least he will be in a couple of months after he has put on some weight.
