Dont know if this comes under Traditional Crafts or not.
With all the damn rain we are getting at the moment, got into the shed and cut some Deer targets out of ply using an old paper target as a template.
Just have to let the kids paint them a little and will apply some rubber to the target zone and then use them for a broadhead target.
They will make me focus a little harder on the shot, if I miss I will have a terrible time trying not to damage my arrow getting it out of the ply. A bit like the old steel pig set up I guess.
The goal being to walk strait out of the house and have a single broadhead shot. No practice, no time, just like the real situation when hunting.
Will send another picture when the kids paint it and set up in the field.

Jape yes mate the kids wanted to put santas raindeers names on the back of them,
Coach I have a mate who makes that rubber you see on the ground at kids play ground to stop them hurting themselves when they fall over at about an 1 1/2 thick I cut it and this usually works .
Will also send a picture when I actually hit the zone for you.
I know they wont last long but only one shot a day and I have four targets they should last a while just hope the shafts hold up to the misses. I'm not proud there will be a few.
Will start them off at ten metres and work my way back to 15-20 which to the max of my hunting range.

Damn its been raining for two days and the news just told us to exspect 200-300 mm more tonight will be some flood photos coming in tomorrow for you guys I think.
This is the creek at the front door of my place last wet.

Might have to make them as big as Santa Nev just to hit them.
An up date photo the kids painted them today, dont know where the black eyes come from I think thats all they had in the shed. Screwed on the round target zone seemed the easyest way to cut the rubber as it was fairly hard.
Just have to wait until it stops raining and will put them down the back.

Jape I cut a hole at the back of the red zone and liquid nailed the 1 inch lip and then screwed it in place until the liquid nails dries and will then remove the screws.
But you can bet your life if I left them in they would be my first contact point for shore.

Well looks like I need a bit of practise alright.
The target seemed to close to start at ten metres so stepped back two more making it twelve.
The distance in the first photo.
I thought I'd use my 45lb bow first just to see what the penatration would be like.( broadheads razor sharp)
Day one, one shot only dam missed. Day two one shot only another miss.
Dam broadheads are sending the shafts a little to the left so compensated the third day and come up with a hit although not in the middle.
As promissed coach a photo on the zone the rubber held the piont from penatrating to deep and was easy to get out.
Will wait until the accuracy improves with the broadheads and jump into the 56lb longbow and heavy arrows them photos to come.

Looks like a ribtek b/h Wayne, but what is the extra bit? Do you make a cone or something to enlarge a smaller shaft?

Hey Jape, No the shafts are carbon 55/75's GT Traditionals. They are a alloy adapter which you glue into the ribtec and then screw into the insert. This way I can use me shafts for field pionts as well.
I only hunt with carbons not very Trad I know but they shoot faster and straiter for me anyway.
I owe it to the animal to shoot equipment that will bring it to the quickest end.
When I step up to my hunting bow the shafts have a 100grn brass insert, 100grn steel adapter and an 130grn ribtec up front giving just the head 330gns, Plenty of weight up front for just about any animal.

Thanks Wayno, I have only made and shot woods so far, that's why I didn't recognise the adapter setup. I have got some alloys I shall set up like that sometime if I can work out how to do it - all those different numbers and bits and pieces confuse me!
I agree with you about using whatever is best for a clean kill, thanks for explaining. Glad the targets worked out fine for you, I was sure you would be breaking arrows on them but that rubber/ply combination is good.
