Good Afternoon Al, et al
A small addition to this thread and timely given Kevin's - Longbowinfected - current pursuit.
After your comments I went to Bunnings (almost 12 months ago) and purchased the cheapest router they had. Glorified laminate trimmer.
From there I made a dedicated Router Table and fitted the Router to it. I have made a fence for it and it can be used for other small jobs however the table is essentially just for use in doing shafts that are to be 4 flute footed.
The table - it was sized in height so that it could sit on top of my Triton and in table dimension so that it was big enough to accept my dovetail jig (Gifkins copy).
The carcass is some MDF from a storage cabinet and the table is Lamipanel.
The router has the base plate cover removed and is bolted to the table.
The fence that is used for cutting flutes is screwed to the table so that registration is not an issue. The other fence can be seen in the background. (The first couple of times I used the other fence and clamped it in position. The current solution is much better.)
Making what is a single use tool for this application has been a smart move.

Do the Footed-Arrows. It will give you something to do when it is to wet and rainy to go outside or when it is to hot and dry to go outside. Then you can start making bows.stringnstik wrote:hahah i have that same router still going strong not a bad little beasty.Used it to finish off the drum..will I do footed arrows hmm gotta draw the time line somewhere
There is nothing quite like the look and feel of a set of footed arrows or the shock that flows through the body when you break your first one.
The Ozito Router (Laminate Trimmer). It was cheap and it does the job and so far has done it well. If all I use it for is cutting the flutes on shafts it will probably last for a few hundred years.
p.s. It would be rather nice to have two mounted on a table to cut dovetails. One to cut the pins and the other to cut the tails and a genuine Gifkin's jig to go with it. Dream on.
