Ladies take-down semi-recurve

#1 Post by rodlonq » Sat Jun 03, 2017 8:30 am

Made a bow for my wife, and some arrows, and a knife. ooo that rhymes.

32#@28" 64 NTN. Robyn will only draw it to around 26-27 inches. Haven't worked that out yet as this is her first bow. I may have to make a lighter set of limbs for her to get started on yet. Arrows are European pine, 350-360 grains. The knife is 1084 carbon steel. Bow woods are conkerberry, purple gidgea, white tulip oak, Qld walnut, Qld silver ash and some purple heart in the overlays. It weighs 2.2 lbs with the orange and white FF+ string. I left the riser quite chunky otherwise it would mostly be the grey heartwood an all the orange would be lost. The weight will help her build muscle and stabilise the bow during the shot  Knife handle is conkerberry with purple heart liners.

Rod very nice work all round mate. Gotta love that conkerberry makes all other timbers stand out as well as the colour it producers by itself. Am jealous of the arrows as well some valuable time spent on them by the looks of it. The grind on the knife looks the goods and is always good to see wood in the scales instead of the G-10 mate. Hope Rob gets the time to enjoy it all.

P.S Looks like you finally got that coating process all worked out hey.

Cheers Wayno talk soon.

Thank you for your kind words gentlemen. I do have to make a lighter set of limbs, Robyn could only get these ones back to about 18-20 inches of draw length.

Cheers... Rod

The new limbs on the tiller tree for the first time. Draw weight is 27#@28" but still needs finish sanding, so they can be made lighter yet.

I have finally taken some snaps of the new limbs finished. It ended up 27#@28" and Robyn will probably draw it to 25#@26". I hope it is not still too heavy, but if it is I'll make a third set of lighter very basic limbs for her to build some strength and technique.
Cheers, Rod
