A Fileld Knife

#1 Post by woodie » Sat Apr 29, 2017 7:44 pm

I made a Fileld knife, don't worry about trying to google, it is a file that I mig welded just to see what it would be like.
It is not the best but it helped with a slow night at work and it has given me some ideas.

I was once told that archery is an addiction, yes, and so is knife making. But a good one.

Yes that happens when you weld high carbon, it bubbles. I might do some more grinding.

I think the weld will be much softer than the file due to low carbon content. It will take an edge OK but probably won't hold it for long in service. Is that weld long the cutting edge towards the tip? It seems to be a much lighter colour as well!

Yes it is weld. This was to give me an idea of what might be the result when I do a forge weld, I know mig weld and forge weld is not the same, of mild wire rope and carbon steel.
I like to play with making things. Its the fitter in me.

However you make it, have fun and try for a result you are happy with :handgestures-thumbup:
