Ozbow

Gday all, as I have mentioned on here I have been researching and developing a bow of my own design, number one is complete and ready for testing and some stats soon to follow. Draw weights will be added when I get my hands on a decent scale, hopefully tomorrow. And a FPS when I can afford a chrono, bow is shooting straight and it feels fast to me, and have not noticed any handshock.

One day I will try a Lam bow, but I think I would like to watch someone a few times first, I think!

Thanks Bob, that means a lot coming from someone like yourself, as for the stats, I needed a bow lighter than my compound 60lb as the missus was fairly disappointed when she couldn't pull it and I would be in deep doo doo if I got another she couldn't use, was fairly keen on a PSE item that Fanto had for sale on here but was a bit heavy, and explained my situation to him he recommended around 40 lb so this is what I was aiming for at my draw length of 28 inches, as Julie draws a little shorter than me this would make a nice weight to hopefully spike her interest levels further and be a good form practice bow for myself also, I must say after some tests this morning I am very chuffed, pics are uploading now and I will keep you posted.

This picture is a little deceiving as the ceiling in my lean to shed is on a slant, the joins in the wall sheet and ceiling are far from level, and the lines were drawn with a spirit level and roofers square. Just zone in and focus on the bow and you'll be right.

Force draw curve looks good with gradual increase, and some preload. In the full draw shot on the tiller tree even allowing for the background, my eye is drawn to a spot above the fade on the right limb. It seems to have a sort of 'knuckle' or something at that point . Maybe its just a camera angle.

not sure Bob, I traced the limbs and spun the bow on the tree then did the same, the lines match up almost perfectly, about 1.5mm difference, and I can't seem to miss the target with it , bow is feeling really nice, no hand shock and very smooth to draw, just needs some string silencers and all will be good.
I can't see the compound bow leaving the wall for a while now.

Thanks Rod, not sure as I said on the tree and flipped they look fine , but I can see in that pic, also the fades are different top to bottom plays a bit of a trick on the eye, even when not drawn.

Think your 100% right now I had another look Rod.Just shows one should engage brain before putting mouth into gear. So great job anyway on the bow. Some really nice touches too like the antler overlay. something I been going to do for ages but haven't got around to it.Look forward to more .

Out the shed grinding away on some knife blades thinking about it, and I clicked as to what you were talking about Bob, I thought you meant the shape of the limb itself, but I think you were referring to the little kink that seems to be in the bamboo line in the limbs, which is as Rod called it, where the shelf is cut in makes it look like a kink in the lams.

Persactly! Optical illusion for a near sighted old fogey.

Very nice work Sean. I really like the timber/antler combo, you must be as happy as a pig the proverbial hey!

The bow isn't a hybrid it is a semi recurve.

Knocked this one up because a mate wanted one to hang on his office wall says he might use it one day. (he's a local artist and loves timber) using the first bow as reference I have got my stacks spot on now, as he wanted a bit heavier than the last I built I made it 40# 28", 64"NTN. Very much the same as the first without carbon added, 1 1/2" limbs no positive tiller and some different timbers with a slightly different grip, (low wrist).
Riser is walnut with curly maple accents,
Red elm limbs with hard rock maple cores,
sambar deer antler, hard rock maple and curly maple overlays,

Thanks Jeff the walnut is a nice simple grain but it seems to be a winner I reckon.
