Recipe and Instructions - How to Bake a Bow.

#1 Post by GrahameA » Fri Jun 29, 2012 11:38 am

Morning All.

Over this week of the School Holidays the young son of a good friend of mine decided to do something different and make his own bow. A move up from the Commercial products to the his own Custom Made Bow - made by himself.

How to Bake a Bow.

********
Ingredients.

14 year old male with zero woodworking skills.
Some Bamboo floorboards
A bit of fibreglass and some glue
A large dose of enthusiasm
2 1/2 days of School Holidays not playing computer games

Grind, sand and file away all bits that do not look like a bow. Cut string grooves. String.

"Hey presto"!!! 35lb Longbow.

Add a couple of more days for finishing work.

Yesterday he spent the day cutting the shelf and finishing the bow. This morning It was string making time and at the moment the wipe-on Poly is drying.

So this afternoon it will get another coat of wipe-on and hopefully some time on the weekend it will go for a shoot.

I have had a few shots out of it and it shoots very nice. Quiet and no noticeable shock - a very nice bow and a credit to the Builder and Sensei Greybeard.

Passing the knowledge on to our young people is what it is all about if we can get them interested. They are our future. He has made a very nicely tillered bow there.
