another one.

#1 Post by bigbob » Mon Nov 14, 2011 11:41 am

Got a couple of bows here I've recently made. No. 3 was the one I wasnt completely happy with re glue gaps, and came in way over weight due to the complexity of changing glass thickness and trying to compute core stacks for a much lighter bow than the first 2. Bow 4 I wanted 40# @ 28'' and having the previous bow with the same thickness glass allowed me to make some calculations comparing apples with apples, against pears before. It turned up at 45# after shaping and sanding to true. After trapping limbs and a little glass sanding I got it to 41# @ 28 which is where it will stay. This shot shows [badly] both bows with no. 3 on top just showing gap in glue lines on belly

Another shot of both bows. Both have to have finish applied properly yet.

Nocks showing that unidentified timber I posted before. I will be making a riser out of it seeing how good it looks. Pity the damn photos are so lousy, but am still trying out this camcorder.

Thanks rod but photos dont show the glue gaps in bow 3 properly. I know its not that bad, and wont affect performance at all but its really annoying when you think you are at last getting on top of the process and find there are plenty of ways to bring you back to earth!

Looking good Bob.

The problem you are having with your photos is the camera is missing focus on the tips and handles and focussing on the back ground. Check your manual and see if you can find out how to get the focus points to lock onto the tips and handles. Your camera may also not be able to focus on them if you have it too close.

Thanks Jeff I will look into it tonight. Funny thing I once was a half decent photo snapper when i had a decent 35mm SLR. Used to play around with filters etc, but now these bl@#%dy point and shoot have me euchered.

Onya Bob! You're really starting to develop as a bowyer, hey?
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

Thanks craig, but its a learning process. If you start thinking I've got this by the tail, then something happens that brings you back to earth with a thud. Having only made the four, it will be a long while before I would even think of myself as a bowyer, just some one making a half reasonable bow is my immediate aim.
