sealing arrows

#1 Post by ontothepigs » Sat Nov 27, 2010 8:03 pm

Just wondering, I have a some arrows comming and they need to be finished. At this stage I just need to seal them and am not going to do any cresting.

Any tips on what to use and how to do it? I was just thinking of a paint brush and some lacquer? How many coates ect

Cheers in advance

I use varnish and apply it by putting a little on a small piece of folded rag and wipe it up and down the shaft a few times. I would apply three coats and give the shaft a rub back with steel wool between coats as this will give you a nice even and very smooth finish.

Gold. Thanks Jeff. I am getting some of the blank wallace woods, they should come up a treat. Do you need to put less where you put the feathers on or it shouldnt make too much difference?

I used Jeff's advice on my wooden arrows, and they turned up beautifully. Just put three coats everywhere, even where the feathers go.

As Dylan says, put the finish on the whole shaft.
