Fancy fox whistles
Whipped this up last night, made of zebra wood and red and white coretuff spacers, very easy to use and squeels like a banshee. Enjoy
Cheers Sean.

Never seen one like that before but it is the best looking one I've seen though.

Re: Fancy fox whistles
Very Nice
Re: Fancy fox whistles
For a moment I thought it was like a predator call i made from an old mag; but I think its different. Not sure how this one works but the one I have has a rubber band stretched between upper and lower pieces along their length acting a bit like a reed. The variance in calls available is astounding, and can be manipulated even more by varying rubberband tauntness. how does yours work?

Re: Fancy fox whistles
Thanks fellas, Gday Bob, same principal mate but the reed in this one is video tape, but after some revision I have a new and stronger reed that will last the life of the timber now, stay tuned for version 2.0

Re: Fancy fox whistles
Great looking craft and matching pair very nice..... Every time I see fox whistles mentioned it gets me a chuckle thinking of Matt 61 the uncrowned miester of out foxing the fox. Matts range of "call e'm ins" went from foot operated recycled air bed pump style tooter's to wireless connected broadcasters with multiple variety's of call. He's probably working on a micro wave system right now as a bow attachment :biggrin.
Re: Fancy fox whistles
I've just been to a TBA weekend where I've never seen so many Deer and Fox calls in my entire life! One presenter who is a great character, David Luxford kept us in stitches with his variety , and application of various calls complete with squeaky dog toy under foot! Great weekend and highly recommended to any one interested in the hunting aspect of our game.It might be held next in NSW in 2 years time.Really worth checking out.

You would have driven within metres of our front door mate. You should have called in.bigbob wrote:I've just been to a TBA weekend where I've never seen so many Deer and Fox calls in my entire life!

Re: Fancy fox whistles
Jeff I would certainly have I done so had I known just where you do live. I have only the vaguest idea where you live. In fact didn't know what part of Maryborough you lived in. I'll be back up that way next Easter for the ABA national titles, being held by Wide Bay club.

Re: Fancy fox whistles
Yeah Bob we live right in town and you drive past our front door to get to Hervey Bay. Next time. I was a founding member of that club way back in 1985. It used to be called Wide Bay Bowhunters but like many clubs they changed its name to get rid of the horrible word Bowhunters.

Re: Fancy fox whistles
Another nice combo, but the zebra still wins in my book.

Re: Fancy fox whistles
Gday Bob, yeah the zebrawood is pretty hard to pass up I reckon, as I said with the video tape reed it has lost some sound and tension already, which is what I suspected, these new ones are great though, the reed in these ones are made from coke cans, I fooled around with some different widths until I came up with a decent sound, you can also adjust the sound by sqeezing the top and bottom together for a higher pitch and can also bow it a little between the fingers for a slightly different sound again, sort of a bit more throat like a duck call, I think my neighbours are sick of fox whistles as well as grinders and sanders now.
Cheers Sean.

Re: Fancy fox whistles
Bubinga combo with stainless pins, reckon I'll try brass with the next Bubinga handle,
Re: Fancy fox whistles
Boy you're churning out the knives Sean, very nice once again. Dug out my call which is similar, believe its called a predator call. Sounds like nothing on Earth, but the article I got it from years ago , the maker said he had called up animals from four continents including Rabbits and elephants!!! Might be able to get a photo on here tomorrow. My camera is being repaired and have to use the Wife's crappy one.[she doesn't read this !]

Thanks mate, the next combo is pool room worthy in a big way, the bow is very sexy, whack some specs up later, enjoy.
Re: Fancy fox whistles
Those are awesome looking. What did you make the reed out of? Any chance you could do a build along?

Re: Fancy fox whistles
I used old coke cans for the reeds, next time I make one I'll take some piccy's of the process and do a build along, quite simple really as long as the reed is flat with good tension and the two surfaces that it is between are perfectly flat, the distance between the 2 surfaces is optional but I leave it a bit larger so you can squeeze it between your fingers making it tighter which makes the sound higher pitched, the missus is actually sick of me and mine.
Re: Fancy fox whistles
Mate, they're excellent! When will they be commercially available?
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!
