SAS Traditional Bowhunting! (warning: big pics, slow load)

Where to source materials etc. Also the place to show off your new bow or quiver etc.... Making things belongs in Traditional Crafts.

SAS Traditional Bowhunting! (warning: big pics, slow load)

A friend loaned me the "SAS Survival Handbook". Old book, around 10 years since it went out of print. Pity.

What do you think of their suggestions?

:? :?:

Hey Erron, the book is still available in Aust, too, it's just had a reprint this/last year. check it out on www.angusrobertson.com.au

The info in the book:

When I first attempted to make bows from sticks, (anything I could, really) this was the only source of information on making bows that I had.
The length prescribed in this book for bows truly isn't long enough. Believe me. Unless you're making a bow with perfectly flat back and belly, (and you won't be in a survival situation) 120cm isn't an efficient length for a bow.

My trusted, tried and true method is to get a stave that's as long as my armspan is wide. This accomodates the not set in stone rule of double draw length for bow length. It's a little bit longer because of safety reasons, and less than perfect working materials.

That's what works for me, anyhow.

Thanks for that Yeoman, I'll add it to my wishlist!

And welcome to Ozbow, BTW. Hope you visit often!
