Good Morning Jhoneil
What can I say. That is a bow of true beauty.
Does it shoot well and what are its rough dimensions? Did you base it on an existing bow or design it from scratch??

Re: My New Asian Bow
Thanks guys! The bow is around 35#@28". Not very heavy poundage. I intended to use it for thumbring practice. It's 50" from tip to tip. Only 14 ounce physical weight.
The design is from scratch but I modeled it after the Crimean-Tartar bows. I shoots really well - even with fingers
Here is the video of me shooting the bow. The nocks on the arrows are not very tight, that is why the string vibrated like that on the first and third shot.

Re: My New Asian Bow
Thanks for showing us your latest artwork JHoneil.
How do you approach somthing so detailed? Do you start with the finished product in mind or do you just add detail as you go?
Thanks for the video of it being shot too.

Re: My New Asian Bow
Thanks again for the kind words:)
Longbow Steve. I have a rough idea of what I want the bow to look like. I originally wanted a red bow with black tips but I could not find reddish woods in my garage so the color is dictated by the woods that is available. Sometimes I am just too lazy to drive to a lumber store For the decorations, I went to a craft store and just bought some stuffs that I thought might look good on the bow. Paints, Japanese papers, hemp twines, and leather are some of the items I used to decorate it.
I guess it's a combination of having an idea for what the bow should look like and then just using what I have available.

I can't see youtube at the moment but I gather it shoots well... which is almost *just* a bonus given that it is such a fine piece of art in and of itself! Very very well done

Beauty to behold.
I would love to know as to how much time and effort you put into such a lovely piece of art and if you were to build a bow like that for sale with matching arrows what do you think it would be worth.
I do love seeing things of such beauty as that bow and the arrows.
Thanks....Bill

What a ripper looking bow Jhoneil! I especially like the way the siyahs join into the limbs and the fantastic attention to detail..
Is that wallpaper you've used on the belly?
Cheers,
Matt

Re: My New Asian Bow
as a user of Asian bows, i am very impressed with both the design and craftsmanship of the Tartar bow that you built Jhoneil, are you yourself of Asian background mate? a lot of "feeling" went into that bow!

Re: My New Asian Bow
hahah Matt. No it's not wallpaper. I guess that could work but it just sounds cheesy. No - I used Japanese origami paper. It seems more appropriate. I will probably paint the design on the next one.

Hi Jhoneil,
Thank you for sharing your 'art of the bow' for us to enjoy. Your attention to detail is excellent.
Can you give us a basic time frame that you work in to create such a functional work of art.
Daryl.

Hi Greybeard. From making the form to the actual decoration.. maybe a month and a half. I think I can finish one faster if I wanted to. There are days that I just don't work on it.
I am not sure if you guys have to register on Leatherwall but here is a build-along of the bow:

Re: My New Asian Bow
Hi Jhoneil,
When using the ‘tendyek’ are there any problems in maintaining even tension/pressure on the belly of the glued up bow?
Is tiered packing required to achieve even pressure across the width of the limbs to eliminate a crown down the center line of the bow?
Cheers,
Daryl.

Wow! Brilliant craftsmanship! Well-done!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Re: My New Asian Bow
Greybeard. The rope technique is by far the hardest method I have tried. It's a workout! I think that is the last time I will try that. The bow actually has a very slight crowning but it does not seem to affect the shooting qualities.
I just finished a proper form (with hose and everything) and I changed the geometry of the bow to be more user friendly. Making the form takes a lot of time but it should make glue up a snap
