Which bow for the tropics
I'm looking at my first recurve bow and was wondering if there are better brands suited to the tropics or if they are all the same. I'm currently looking at a samick deer master.
Thanks
Thanks

Samick make some good starter bows... but for the same price maybe just a bit more you can get some really good second hand bows.

Firstly welcome to Ozbow Stewart. Where are you from?
Most bows are suitable so long as they are well sealed with a good finish to keep out moisture. Don't leave any bow strung up in your car out in the sun though as they could get too hot and delaminate.

Thanks for the replies. Where do I go to look for second hand bows? And which brands are more reliable than others second hand and new ( value for money ) as I'm just starting out.

Have a look right here in our Trade Blanket forum as recurves come up quite often. If you find one in your draw weight I'm sure folks on here will give you an honest opinion.

Yep, pretty-much any well-finished bow will do the trick. Mine have all done fine so far, and we do go for walks in tropical downpours. Always take your bow apart (if it's a take-down) and stick it under a fan overnight after a drenching. And, if you nick the bow severely on a rock or something, use super glue to cover the wound in order to keep the humidity out.

It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

the samick deermaster is a fine bow, better than the price suggests. i've shot a few pigs and a scrub bull with one. all in the tropic heat and humidity of cape york. i think you couldn't go far wrong getting one, great value for money, IMHO.
