The 55# one I had was SHOCKING , maybe I just got a bad one . It would pay to shoot one though before you bought it
Re: ive changed.....:(
I've shot this bow at 40lb and loved it. A really fun bow.
If you don't like the mass produced effect, you can always make a handle wrap to customise it.

I have one similar at 40# and it shoots great! The double recurve makes it extremely fast even from low poundage, Yer i would do what coach said, try before buy. I went to abbey archery in brisbane to pick up a korean recurve they have a mini range behind the shop where you can shoot.

Re: ive changed.....:(
That would probably help . The handle is only about 4 arrows round .Steven J wrote:

Re: ive changed.....:(
I also found they are extremely light, and i mean seriously light.

Re: ive changed.....:(
so they are about $300
...so samick SKB for $300
or
a wildwood horsebow for $600.
i'm guessing the wildwood ones are a deal better.
is it possible to compare the two?

Re: ive changed.....:(
I had a few shots with one that was 50# and the hand shock was terrible, literally painful.

Re: ive changed.....:(
Mine came with a handle so i didnt have any handshock. It helps to put a handle the size of your hand on these types of bows i think.

Re: ive changed.....:(
Yep ,, thats it Matt , mine was so bad that I flinched at every shot ,anticipating the pain , I hated it .Had it 2 days and got rid of it . Glad you came inmatt61 wrote:I had a few shots with one that was 50# and the hand shock was terrible, literally painful.

Re: ive changed.....:(
Ive got one and find it perfect for fox whistling (see cover of stikbowhunter mag) mine has no handshock at all, reasonably quick and nice and short. I agree that the grip needs some work to get it right.

Re: ive changed.....:(
my mates got one at 50lb.now buying a 60lb. i think thats the max on them.
his came with a ruubber grip to fit.i shot it but it wasnt for me.i prefer the grozer scythian.but what doesnt suite someone. suits someone else.and i didnt try any different sets of arrows either just his set.which seemed over spined for the bow.i would try before you buy.the one hes ordered now is from a company called bowsports if i remember right.and less than a hundred pounds inclusive of delivary and spare string.

Re: ive changed.....:(
bps i have your grip aswell, i noticed that picture I tried shoot a vane fletched arrow the other day and boy did it hurt.
Cheers, Toby
Re: ive changed.....:(
the grip that i have on this bow is the original rubber grip slimmed down and then built back up with leather to suit my hand, i have built a small shelf into it so i dont shoot off my hand.
ive shot alot of game with that bow, i draw it to 30" and its been dry fired more that once its not an expensive bow and it has proven itself to be very reliable.

Im gonna make it bend and break-Fall Out Boy
Re: ive changed.....:(
got it and have been shooting all day i love it in this one there is only a little hand shock and it is damn fast, i got the 60lbs ( it think its acctuly a bit under that maby 57-58) i put a little leather handle on it (no rest) and have nothing to complain about at all.

Re: ive changed.....:(
Hand shock can be an issue on these type of bows and it really has very little to do with the bow itself, but the archer. With the handle design not having any locating device, the differences in opinion are mainly due to where the archers pressure point is, high/low wrist etc.. It makes a huge difference in the way the bow shoots. I'm sure they are a nice little bow, anyone who poo poos them should first work on the way they grip the bow.
Glad you are enjoying it Dave

if your happy with the bow that's all that matters..............Rod
Re: ive changed.....:(
Lorchan (James) might be able to introduce you to the black art of the thumb ring release.... very suited to such a short bow as an SKB. I have seen him botch a few shots and have an arrow fishtailing so badly that it was simultaneously hitting a pair of targets 20cm apart at about 20m... but when he gets it sweet, it sails out straight and true, well down range.
sssshhhh.... they are watching
Re: ive changed.....:(
yeah i really want a thumb ring sadly archery supplies in canberra dont stock em, and if the fit for a thumb if off...its ment to hurt and suck and be no fun at all, but i do want one.

Re: ive changed.....:(
Matt is right on the handshock issue. Bows like this one with no shelf will have hand shock because of the way they are held. The same goes for the nocking point, it must be consistant and in the right place or you will never get the bow shooting properly. If you place your hand too high or low the bow will kick as you will pull the bow out of tiller. Just like a lot of bows that have handshock and have a shelf cut in they are pulled out of tiller with every draw as they were never tillered properly in the first place the bow will have no option but to kick. There are other reasons for handshock but tillering and hand placement are the main reasons...Glenn...
Re: ive changed.....:(
Here is one for you....
This in nice.
Odd.
Bunch of nice ones here.
3rivers sell them, though I am pretty sure they also used to do a DIY version that was roughed out and needed finishing. Can't seem to find it now. Size and fit would be the issues with buying sight unseen.
You ought to be able to knock one up with a bit of fiddling. Good project if you can find a lump of bakelite and a dremel.

Re: ive changed.....:(
yeah, shouldnt be to much trouble to make one, a section of marrow bone should do the trick. i guess ill add this project to the pile hehe

Re: ive changed.....:(
Just make sure you wear a mask when grinding or sanding bone, horn, etc (incl bakelite and other synthetics) - that is some really nasty crud right there.
