Shooting Arrows

#1 Post by Roadie » Sun Feb 01, 2009 9:50 pm

Evening All,
Question. When shooting long bow is their any thought as to whether the cock feather should be facing out or in once it is notched to string, if you know what i mean. I would appreciate thoughts and or views of other longbow archers.
I shoot of knuckle and my bow is one of Lens Ash bows. Cheers Roadie.

Roadie, most shoot cock feather away from the riser, but I have tried other ways and it seems to work fine.

I cannot say with a non centre shot ELB but all my centre shot [modern] longbows [american flatbows] are great any way, BUT you have to tune your arrows to the bow AND make sure the spine is correct AS WELL as get that string nocking point right.

Some fellows are shooting cock-feather-in with great success these days. Black Widow recommend some sort of cock-feather-up arrangement. I just shoot the old-fashioned cock-feather-out way, so I don't get confused. They all seem to work really well.
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Use 4 feathers and don't worry about which way you nock the arrow :D . A well tuned setup and it won't make a difference.

All my hunting arrows are 4 fletches as it saves confusion when a fast second shot may be needed, but on the range I use cock feather out,(the way I shoot it doesn't seem to make any difference as the target remains unhurt :roll: )
