A few small pics of my new Chekmate Hunter

#1 Post by Mick Smith » Tue Jan 30, 2007 2:18 pm

It's been a long wait, but the time has arrived. 8)

Chad just sent me an email to say my new 56 inch Chekmate Hunter T/D is finished and ready to post. He's going to pop it in the mail tomorrow. Chad always sends a few photos of what the bow is like and I thought you may be interested in having a preview too.

The riser is made of cobote and bubinga and the limbs are red elm (cut flat on one side only). It has a 46# @ 28 inches draw weight. I've got another set of 55# limbs ordered for this bow which will be ready in a few months.

It looks even better that what I had hoped for. :D

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

Very nice Mick, a great wood combination!!! That is Bocote isn't it not 'cobote'? :D

It is interesting how it has edge grain and crown cut lams in the limbs. I suppose it is the best of both worlds in that the one has a little more performance and the other the good looks.

Mate, I guess the wait will now be intense since it is coming via mail - especially the Aussie end.

Ah er, yep Jeff, you're right of course, it's bocote not cobote. I was sort of close though. :) It has a beautiful grain whatever you call it.

It should take about a week to arrive and that will pass soon enough. There's always some concern that it could be damaged or lost in the mail, but everything should be OK.

I'm really looking forward to trying it out. I've been making some arrows for it. They just need to be crested, so I better get to it. 8)

Hi Mick,
It is a beautiful bow indeed. Well worth the wait.

Hey Mick,
so when are you going to organise the Chekmate Mutual Admiration Shoot.
Beautiful bow mate, and now what you need is a good set of footed Wallace woods to shoot out of it....

Hi Sue

Yes that would be a good combo alright. 8) One of these days, when I'm financial again, I just might take you up on that offer.

In the meantime, I've been making a set of POC arrows for it. They will be about as good as I can make them, but alas they will be a far cry from Steve's beauties.

I'm also seriously thinking about putting in an order for some of Steve's footed shafts one day in the not too distant future. 8)
