Woodworking show etc

#1 Post by Anna » Thu May 04, 2006 8:53 pm

Hi all,

Found this while flipping through the local paper, thought someone might be interested. Looks more like fancy working but you never know, they might have some interesting stuff....

Hi Anna

I tend to average every second year. Always check out the show specials as you can sometimes do well on tools.

The demos are, sometimes, very good. If you want make small display/presentationm boxes try to get a Roger Gifkins demo - or just check out his stall.

The specialist timber merchants from around SEQ are usually there and it can be worthwhile just to collect their cards for when you want something.

Start saving. Yew staves are hundreds of dollars, and I think yew is protected in Spain and Italy now.

I know; coz I've looked into it.

Getting yew from the US is a better bet than from Europe. I know at least a few countries in Europe where it is protected. It has mostly been blown on bows in the past centuries.

A couple of years ago I ran into a pile of US yew boards on a Melbourne timber yard. The problem was they were all rough sawn and I could not have the slightest idea what the grain was doing, so I ended up not buying any  .
