Mate wants a custom Japanese-style bow...

Got a mate who wants a heavy Japanese-style bow, but because this goes against tradition the Japanese bowyers cannot understand or assist.

Is there any Aussie bowyer willing to tackle such a project? My mate has a kyudo bow that he can take measurements from or send photos of. It's just too light, and it is as heavy as they will make.

He's after something 80 to 100 pounds at about 92cm draw length for buffalo.

He's happy to pay good money, and understands the need to make a new form.

Please let me know if you can help, and I'll pass my mate's contact details over to you.

Cheers,

Ben

Morning.

I have been a member of this site for over decade. In that time I am aware of only one Yumi style bow being made by members of this site.

There are reason why the Japanese do not make 80lb plus bows. (If it is intended to shoot it with a Japanese style glove you will probably need to make a glove as well.)

Based of those two items I expect you will have little chance of getting someone in Aus to build the sort of bow you seek.

If you are still keen I would suggest you contact Jaap Koppedrayer in the US or have a go at building it yourself. (It is not impossible.)

Great news. It will be great to see anotger in action. IMO As long as people are willing to accept a few deviations from the original/traditional design it should be achievable. It you be even better if you would post some photos of the completed product and it being shot.

$0:02. To save building a conventional form consider using an adjustable form. It works. Or they could use the traditional method using a multitude of wedges. Much will depend on the Bowyer and their experience and preference. The challenge after the Bow becomes the Arrows ....

I await with anticipation the completed product.
