New Hunting bow "The BoSS"

#1 Post by Muz1970 » Tue Dec 29, 2015 11:15 am

So everything has worked out this time round. Very happy with bow finish and performance. Glued it up on boxing day.

WA Sheoak veneers and riser. 66" ntn 74#@31"
Bare shafted some arrows and it shoots 250 spine widow makers weighing 620gn at 200fps. Should do the trick on the bigger game.

Even made the fades longer
Very quiet to shoot. Just need to make it a new string.

I have to agree, the transition of the fadeouts into the limbs look good, the bonus is that the load is spread over a larger area.

With the tips being a fair distance in front of the handle have you experienced any difficulty in stringing the bow?

Well done.

With that weight and arrow speed there won't be much that thing can't stop.

Hey Greybeard, your on the money again mate. Not a hope in hell of stringing it with out the stringer. Even then you need to be switched on. Don't usually use s stringer with any of my bows but have no choice with the BoSS.

Have made a couple of 12 strand strings for it but got side tracked last night with some jolly kiwi visitors and now my head hurts. Bloody Kiwis.

Will do some more tuning this arvo after work, Hopefully

Fantastic bow , beautiful job.
And I am a recurve shooter.
Is Sheoak a hard wood ?
I would think of it as a mid strength type of wood , not that strong for a single piece riser for a bow that heavy...
I may be wrong , I don't know much about wood properties , I always laminate my risers.

WA Sheoak is a hardwood. Certainly not at the top end though. I guess only time will tell if its up to the job.

Had a look over your Facebook page, you have some very nice bows there mate.

Hi Muz,

My last recurve, 62 inch n to n displayed similar bad manners. The form was designed for a 58” n to n bow. I decided not to make a new form as there was sufficient room on the existing one to extend each tip by two inches.

In hindsight it would have been prudent to make a new form and add the extra two inches between the fadeouts and mid limb.

The bow was a bit of a challenge to shoot consistently and if your form slipped accuracy went out the window.

When tuning the ‘BoSS’ you may have to sacrifice a few fps by going heavier in arrow mass to obtain a more stable shooting platform.

I reckon that if you can get three goats walking past side by side you could take the three of them out with the one arrow.
