G'day, and a string question?

Where to source materials etc. Also the place to show off your new bow or quiver etc.... Making things belongs in Traditional Crafts.

G'day, and a string question?

#1 Post by Jake13 » Sat Oct 31, 2015 9:18 pm

G'day,

Great to join a forum of fellow people interested in traditional archery.

I have a Ben Pearson 50th anniversary traditional (71# @ 28") in need of a new string, and am after your advice as to what to fit? I'd prefer to buy off the shelf or have a string made locally (ie, I'm not interested in making my own string just yet, not for this bow). It's currently strung with a 66" actual length flemish which is getting on a bit.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers,

Jake

hey Jake
I'd go with a B50 string and not a Dyna flight D97 or a fast flight due to the bows age, imo.

Gday mate yeah you will get lots of helpful advice and contacts from the people on this forum.
I would agree with littlejohn above go with a dacron string.
There are a number of people on this site who will make one up for you at a modest price; Nick Lintern of Norseman Bows (a bowyer too) you acn look at the Tradbits site Mark Harvey in QLD, Sue and Steve Wallace (Wallace Woods) do very nice strings too but not sure if they do dacron.
John McDonald AMSO128 is great for trad supplies and a good bloke to boot and may carry stock strings if you have the details on what you want
Theses are the guys who come to mind straight away.
Cheers
Ian

Thanks for the replies gents.

How many strands should I be looking for in a dacron string for the 71# draw weight?

I would make an 18 strand string for that poundage bow.

Thanks for the feedback. I had a string made up by Craig (Swift Bowstrings). Very happy with the result.
