Leather selection for a quiver

#1 Post by Mattkaye » Sat Sep 19, 2015 4:29 pm

Hi guys and gals

Looking for a good thick leather to make myself a back quiver from. And suggestions where I can purchase some good leather from here in Aus. I already have my design idea and know how to put it together, ( been practicing with paper to make the design. I just need leather now )

what is also like to know, is how thick should the leather be?

Forgot to add, I'd like a stiff leather as I would like the quiver to hold its shape.

How would you go about stiffening the leather so it holds its shape?

Have a look at Bag or Football leather of around 3.5mm if it is for a back quiver. The Packer Tannery has it. http://www.packerdirect.com.au/Products ... ather.aspx

Thanks jeff, is that the standard thickness of football leather, or would Bridle Leather be better do you think at 4-5mm, will enquire on price to see how much they are as they are not specified on the site.

Again thanks Jeff

5mm would be too thick IMO. I used Bag leather and Football leather for years making back quivers when I was selling them. It worked very well. It averaged approx 3.5mm. It held it shape well.

They are beautiful Jeff, Iv sent them an email an asked for a price, if it's well priced I can buy a few different colours. I much preferred making my own rather than buying them!
