Hickory, Fiberglass, Sinew & Rawhide

#1 Post by cmoore » Fri Dec 26, 2014 12:58 pm

Merry Christmas all, hope you all had a safe and merry one
I finally got around to finishing my little composite bow that I started in an earlier thread but I thought I'd make a new thread to show the finished results. Fiberglass belly, Hickory core, Sinew backing and rawhide over the sinew to protect it, 35" tip to tip and has a bollocks load of reflex for such a short bow, pulls at least 30ish pounds @ 17"

She's a finicky little thing and the tiller has to be evened out after bracing her by exercising each limb individually in particular spots

After a few minutes to even out this tiller this is how she looks

This is how she looks right after being unbraced after about 15 or 20 shots

After about an hour or so she pulls back all of her reflex  I'm really happy with this bow as I didn't even think she would survive being drawn past 10 inches or so. Guess it's time to start making some authentic looking arrows

Hi Cameron,

That is an interesting 'short' bow.

Is the fibreglass a substitute for horn and is the bow representative of some of the North American native bows?

A lot of the Turkish composite flight bows were placed in a warming box and then the tiller was adjusted before shooting.

Cool little Bow, even my Grozer Bio Composite needs evening of the Tiller after Bracing. Not a criticism but it looks a little round in the Handle, even at Brace - keep it up cmoore, good stuff
