New Arrows

G'day all
A few pictures of my latest set of arrows, been playing around making my own wood shafts for a while these are out of an old piece of Oregon I had.
They spine at 65lb, Top hat stainless 125 grain field points weighted up to 140grains (with a little bit of lead).
Also my first go at splicing feathers, They were meant to be in NSW Waratahs colours to commemorate their super 15 win this year.

supe rb looking arrows. You must have untold patience and time to splice the fletches the way you do.. They look magic. I would not want to loose an arrow like that. To mark the arrow or just damage a quill would sadden me after so many painstaking hours of just splicing let alone cresting. I won't ask how many hours and days it took you to make those arrows

now they are some beautiful arrows. i'm not sure i'd ever have them leave my quiver!

Yes there is a few hours in it but I love mucking around in the shed making things and if it is in timber I will have a go at it, the traditional archery stuff is right up my alley in that regard.

I have a jig made up using a router which square blanks go into and come out round, taken a bit of perfecting but they are coming out pretty good now, depends a bit on the species of timber even the particular piece as to how well it machines.
I have used hoop pine, Oregon, western red cedar (light weight and spine good for kids arrows) and kauri all successfully.

I am not so worried about breaking them gives me a reason to make some more.

Is it at all possible in seeing a picture or two of your jig that incorporates a Router that turns your square billets into round dowel shafts.?

Very nice mate, they should give you great satisfaction when you start nailing targets with them.

I too made a fixture for my router table to make shafts from square billets but never had any decent timber to feed into it. Did a reasonable job on the radiate pine test pieces though.

Nice looking arrows Mat keep up the good work. Glad you planed them yourself certainly makes you appreciate them a lot more when all the effort goes into them. hope that's not the colours to the local football team.
