Can my lower limb be repaired?

Where to source materials etc. Also the place to show off your new bow or quiver etc.... Making things belongs in Traditional Crafts.

Can my lower limb be repaired?

#1 Post by subseapeter » Mon Sep 08, 2014 11:12 am

Since the early 1980's I've been shooting my Bear Kodiak T/D. For years it's had a few stress fractures in the clear coating on the lower limb but I've always been advised that they're cosmetic and I should just keep an eye on them. They were becoming a bit more noticeable about this time last year (image with riser), but today when I pulled out my bow for a bit of practice I noticed that it looks like the fibreglass has delaminated.

Is it terminal or can it be repaired?

Should I just purchase some new limbs and if I do, can I use them with my old riser?

Any suggestions or help (or commiserations) greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Ozbow. It looks as though that limb could be saved. By the photos it appears as though just the glass has a separation. Always hard to tell when only viewing photos though. If you tell us where you live perhaps one of the bowyers might be able to help you try and repair it.

G'day Jeff,

I'm in Sydney.

The more I ponder the delamination, the less hopeful I am that it can be made good. I had a quick chat to Nick Lintern on the phone and I'll give him a look at the thing at the October shoot at Hunter Valley. Lucky I still have my Gringa longbow for playing around with.

If anyone has any thoughts on getting replacement Bear limbs, originals or new customs, let me know.

Peter

He should be able to give you a pretty good idea if it can be repaired.
