help needed to identify wood
Im extremely new to bow making and would like to say Hi and what a great site this is.
im trying to identify this type of tree and know if its any good for bow making. I think its Iron bark.
Also a friend gave me a slab of blue gum and if anyone could give me some tips on working it, like is it best to use a drawknife or scapers.
thanks in advance guys.

Re: help needed to identify wood
G'day mate. It does look like red iron bark. If it is it, and i'm pretty sure it is, it will make a fine selfbow.

Hi metalhead
My brother in law is doing a landscaping apprenticeship so I got him to ask his Tafe teacher. Apparently it's narrow leafed apple (angophora bakeri) which is a close relation to eucalyptus. I did a search to see what it's good for and not a lot came up but I've split it and debarked it so ill see what comes of it. Thanks for the reply.
