The Grey Goose Wing. What Goose?

#1 Post by GrahameA » Mon Aug 04, 2014 8:54 am

Morning All.

A question regarding fletches. The (medieval) English used Goose Feather (amongst others) for feather fletching of their arrows.

What species type of Goose was used for the feathers and does anyone have a good reference for the colour? Yes there are comment, etc. about the fletches being white or grey however I am seeking something a bit more definitive.
Grahame.

Hi Grahame,

you could try this website where they sell feathers - grey goose included.

http://www.rainbowfeatherco.com/Goose.htm

There is a photo mid way down the page of three goose feather, one of which they claim is a "grey" goose.

Hope it helps.
