Swap bow.

#1 Post by bigbob » Mon Mar 03, 2014 12:23 pm

some regulars here might have seen my brilliant 'snake 'bow i received from the US last year. It was the result of a bow swap organised by a forum over there whereby people nominate what type of bow they would like to receive, and what type of bow they might make. Each person gets the name of their recipient but no idea who is making theirs. After a bit of indecision i decided to have another go this year and this my bow that's heading there this week.On the inlay in the riser there is a leaf covering the engraved initials of the recipient.

the riser is Hairy Oak/ silver Ash with gidgee accents. The belly lams are spliced, with hairy oak lower part and black wattle upper part of belly lams. There are chevrons of silver ash and gidgee accents.

An after thought Bob. Are you swapping it for another one of those self bows that seem so appealing? If not, what was your swap criteria?

Cheers..... Rod

The way the swap works Rod is that you specify what bow you will make and some idea of what you would like to get in return. You are then given a balloted name with recipient's details , including desired draw weight, length, and split etc,so you know who you are making for and what, but have no idea who's making yours and what you are getting. It can be hilarious watching people 'fishing' for clues in posts and expressing a desire for practically every bow posted
