Small Game Heads

#1 Post by woodie » Fri Dec 06, 2013 8:01 pm

Hi all have any of you used washers on screw on field points?
I worked at a place a 100 years ago, well it fells like it sometimes, that did panel work so I grabbed some 5mm washers and used them on my allows. At the time I shot one of those things with wheels. Anyway I had a lot of fun busting bunnies with them.
I was talking to the bloke that comes around work and got some today and thought I would share with everyone so here are some pics.

I think I am going to have to get some more screw in adaptors off JMD.

Yes same here, I do have a few carbons but love wood shafts.
I do also make some glue on small game heads when I can, be a machinist and all  . I will try and find one that I have made in the past tomorrow and put a photo up.

Many years ago I tried the washer idea with a wheely bow on big hares and found if I hit the animal quartering away and a bit far back the head would go in and act like a barbed head and sometimes lose the head and animal, otherwise they were pretty good

That they do and knowing how to use them a little helps too.

0.38 calibre spent cartridge cases with a bit of lead in them work well. I have also used 0.303 cases with even more lead shot/split sinkers.

Not hard to find someone using firearms with a few extra pieces of brass.

Being a fitter is very handy. It also means I like to see the simplest solution used if it's viable. As I use carbon shafts the washer idea is sheer brilliance. I am seriously considering switching to wood though and I might crank up the lathe and punch out a few dozen bunny busters. I might use stainless too just for a little bling lol.
