Feather Fletching Tape?
Does any one use Bohning Feather Fletching Tape? Does it hold up and is it easy to remove?
I have only ever used glue, glue or glue.
Cheers.

Here's an old thread on this subject. You will find that some people like it and others don't. Anyway, you can read it for yourself.

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

Steve uses it all the time on the dozens that leave here up from 36# to 120# arrows. Quick, easy, efficient, no mess, and feathers can be recycled - and don't stretch the tape when placing it on the arrow quills.

Re: Feather Fletching Tape?
I have used it with success but I can tell you that if it gets to be old ( over a year ) it does lose it's adhesion. I have read that if you don't use a lot of it ( apparently there is enough on one roll to do 3 dozen arrows ) if you keep it in the refrigerator it keeps better.

Anyone?
Just wanted to verify Loctite super glue 406 is the one most are recommending? About $20 for a 25ml bottle?
Also is this the one that will do about 24 arrows?
Cheers

Troy,
I used Loctite 401 & later 406 for over twenty years with great success. The biggest problem was that it would go off before I used it all. In the last couple of years I discovered Bunnings sold Loctite Super Glue - Precision in 5g bottles. I have found this works just the same as the 406 and from memory the bottle holds enough glue to fletch a few dozen arrows. The good part is it only costs about $5 to $6 a bottle. It's very handy to have a bottle in your kit.

if you keep your loctite in the refrigerator it lasts right down to the last drop.

Re: Feather Fletching Tape?
I use 401 for feathers on woods, and used to use 406 for plastic vanes on aluminium/carbons. 406 works for feathers on woods, but I prefer the 401 as it sets faster and so allows me to fletch my arrows faster. Using two clamps, by the time I've put the next feather in the spare clamp, the one in the jig is set.
I've just fletched a set of arrows using some 401 that's been sitting in the fridge since I last used it 12 months ago - still as good as it was when I opened it. It will go off eventually, but it takes a while.

Re: Feather Fletching Tape?
I like fletch tape because it is instant. I had trouble in the beginning with feathers coming away from the shaft but not since I learned to thoroughly clean the quill and the shaft with acetone prior to assembly. Also a drop of CA either end for good measure/safety.
If it is good enough to meet Steve Wallace's standards, it must be good.

Just don't stretch the tape when applying as Sue has said..

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!
Re: Feather Fletching Tape?
somebody attached a 3 inch purple feather to the roof of my camry using fletching tape at easter.
and it's still there, a bit faded and weathered after a few thousand km and a few automatic car washes.

Re: Feather Fletching Tape?
I found that Loctite 406 worked for me with plastic vanes and alloy/carbon shafts. Needs a bit of preparatory work though. The process I used was:Ian Turner wrote:Hi guys while we are on the subject of glues and while its not quite traditional plastic vanes and alloy and carbon shafts; always an issue; what works?

1) scuff the shaft with fine wet & dry paper,
2) wipe clean with acetone/isopropanol/metho,
3) clean the base of the shaft with acetone/isopropanol/metho,
4) stick on the vane.
If I was in the mood I'd also wipe the base of the shaft with Loctite 770 after cleaning it.
