Predator Bow

#1 Post by Buranurra » Thu Jul 26, 2012 12:31 pm

Hi all,

I am quite excited about my new bow arriving and having the dreaded wait for the limbs to be ready, I thought I would share some pics of what I have ordered. The riser shown is a one off and pic is the actual one I am getting. Limbs will be either bocote or tulip wood and have left it up to the bowyer to select the best match.

60" - 43# @28"

"Wood Configuration:

Maccassar Ebony
Bubinga/Maple
Fall Brown Futurewood

Description:
Rare Maccassar Ebony with Fall Brown FutureWood ends accented with African Bubinga stripes. An exotic favorite " (quoted from website)

That looks nice Jase. Bocote looks good but I think the Tulipwood looks very nice and may go better with the reddish tones of the Bubinga accent stripe.

THanks Jeff,

I tend to agree with what you are saying about the tulip wood. I'll be interested to see what the bowyer recommends. In any case when I graduate to 55# ish, I can always choose another wood

Being a bit of a recurve bloke that is a thing of great beauty. I envy you.

Thanks Rob,

I am hanging out for it, suffice it to say I had to sell a couple of "toys' to get approval from the war-office

Nice choice 1
My Predator is probably the fastest easy to shoot wooden recurve that I have ever shot . The remind me of a hot rodded ol' Bear Super Kodiak that has been to the hot rod service centre

whom or what is this hot rod place of which you speak?

It sounds like my kind of place

thanks

also, Buranurra. A samick sage would have done the job for a first trad bow. But like you I got a nicely crafted one (not as nice as yours) and I think it was worth every cent, because I like it, my mates like it so much a couple of them ordered one, and my grandmother always taught me to buy very few posessions, but them once only, and buy the best.

They are lovely bows, I have shot one in the shop they are extremely fast and pleasant.

THanks fellas,

Always wanted a hot-rod

I agree with the sentiment that it is better to have fewer quality things that many so-so. Like Fanto's grandmother, my Pop said always buy the best tool you can afford - it saves money in the end.

THe wait is gunna be torturous

Well, ere it is all!

The bowyer recommended bocote for the limbs and I was happy to go with his recommendation.

Apologies for crappy photos, I have never photographed a bow before.

you lucky bugger

i was shooting the archery shop owner's predator hunter 60lb in the shop yesterday. dear god that thing is fast. i thought my Mamba was quick- the predator smokes it. no handshock either and i was hitting X's straight up at 20yds which really upset the owner but its a real nice bow to shoot

i think you are wise in starting mid 40lbs and then moving up to a heavy bow later. regarding the lighter bow , I was reading the Dr. Ashby report today and he achieved 100% kill rate on water buffaloe (asiatic) with a 45 odd pound recurve using 650gr arrows in his testing, based on following his 10 point plan for certain death (extreme FOC, single bevel broad head, heavy arrow etc)

and I like your taste in bows arrows and quiver.

cheers

Thanks Troy, the quiver is from 3 Rivers - very expensive but heirloom quality I think.
