They're here!! Ulysses and Mr Hyde

#1 Post by hazard » Tue Feb 07, 2012 9:26 pm

I have just got ........................A Flatline!! and what a 'Cracker!!"

I told Rob I wanted an 80LB bow and his first response was the equivalent to "Are you mad?" Go 75 man what would you want with a bow that powerfull.
But I am not noted for being conventional

80 @28" Ulysses Named so as this poundage and Greek Mythology

This wasn't meant to be a main stream bow for every day, I thought it would be good to have limbs at a poundage I use every day so the Alter Ego was born....

66 @ 28" Mr Hyde

I have a feeling on a hunt this may bring me good luck

Rob did the most amazing job!! Qualified everything at every step to make sure I was satisfied with the end result, Timbers, performance and the curve balls I chucked him, Riser shape and 80LB limbs he spanked way out of the stadium

Ulysses is smooth as a babys bottom!  If I had, had the time and a complete set of arrows I would have shot at least 20 arrows without fatigue

The first 2 arrows went exactly where I was looking I $hit you not....see the attached picky

Mr Hyde is as smooth as any top brand bow anyone can buy. I damaged a knock on the second round of 10 this arvo.

Many Pictures to come, hope the link works

OK Now

Ulysses limbs are a combination of Bamboo core,Brown Tulip Oak & Tasi Blackwood

Mr Hyde is Bamboo core Bush Tulip Oak & Burdikin Plum

The Riser is Purple Gidgee,Burdikin Plum, Glass and multiple laminated timbers to a fantastic effect, but I reckon Rob will have to explain the finer details.

With Gidgee, Lacy She Oak and Slvr Ash/Conkerberry veneers, and the string groove overlays is Lacy She Oak.

I will post some pickies Rob sent me as the bow progressed and then.............

Good Stuff Graydon. We'd better organise a trip. When you coming to Canberra to look at some orange wood?

I must say, doing the faceting on the riser was a real challenge. Keeping those sharp edges sharp during the final sanding and coating process made for many hours of careful sanding, wont be doing that again any time soon, unless someone wants to pay a little extra.
And the eighty pound thing  ,I've got a bugered shoulder at the moment and I could'nt even string it without someone there to slip the string onto the knock tip for me   .

Cheers, Rob.

Being a bit of a recurve person they are really beautiful, even if set up the wrong way round. As for Ulysses, over to you to draw the b*** thing :) too much bow for me.
