Throwing away timber
Next time you [ meaning anyone] helps a mate chop down an unwanted tree, PLEASE check out the timber it might have. These couple shots are from that couple little 20'' logs i took in the off chance when I did help a mate. They are the ones from a previous post where i was hoping to identify it. These shots dont do the grain or colours justice, but just think what they would have been like as veneers. AAAAAgggrrrr.

Yep Jeff, I'm on the lookout now. Went to a wedding other day and it was set in rain forest. Man all I wanted to do was go nuts with a chain saw. Got the owner lined up though for any windfalls or similar.

Re: Throwing away timber
Can you send a small piece to the forestry department to be ID'd
Re: Throwing away timber
I guess I sure could and may do that simply to tortue myself a bit more for my obvious stupidity in not grabbing more before it went to the big wood chipper in the sky.I will try and find out tomorrow how to go about it. Thanks big fella.

Re: Throwing away timber
Being slack I havent done anything as yet about sending a sample away but here's a couple shots of a roughed out riser.
the first shot shows riser after wetting with water and the second is natural.

2 more shots of opposite side. Imagine what a large limb could have done. The tree this came from was about 12 metres high with branches having better than 16" dia in places.

Re: Throwing away timber
I agree...hate to see good wood shredded in the wood chipper. Near my home (here in mid-Missouri, USA), there are a bunch of nice STRAIGHT osage orange trees marked with tape around them. I assume they will be cut down for the new sewer pipe soon to be installed. I would hate to see that wood wasted. Jim
