howdy doody one and all

just inquiring as to wether it is possible to change the draw weight of a recurve by changing the length of the string???

and on a longbow for that matter as well???

By using a shorter string you will in fact be increasing the draw weight of your bow. This is because the shorter string makes the limbs bend more at your draw length. The increase in poundage will be small though.

Althought your draw weight will go up slightly by using the shorter string, arrow speed will decrease. This is because the bow will have a shorter power stroke. The power stroke is the distance that the string is actually pushing the arrow, upon release.

For example: Your bow has a brace height of 7 inches and you
draw it 28 inches - the power stroke is 21 inches. With a shorter string your brace height might be say 8 inches and you draw it the same to 28 inches - the power stroke is 20 inches, 1 inch shorter than when using the longer string.
