Almost done...Dial up beware

#1 Post by kimall » Tue Jul 27, 2010 7:17 pm

Here are some pics of the bow I have been working on for a few weeks now and the one that killed my cupboard in the shed.It was glued up by Glenn last year but was as it came off the form until the other day when I got around to starting the shaping process.I was wanting to make it into a takedown with a bowbolt but it shot too good to be messed with.I will put up some better pics when it is finished and I have dulled the glossy finish abit.
Cheers KIM

Good Lord! You've outdone even yourself, Kim! Your right, that is a cracker! What sort of woods are we looking at? I'm coming up to see Davo in the next couple of weeks, if it suits you I'd love top drop around and see that beauty in the flesh!
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

Flashy Kimal, very sweet. Hard to pick up in the riser photo - has that bow got parallel lamination's or is one reverse tapered mate

Perry it will be flashy when it has a set of the laminated shafts in the bow quiver. It has one reverse taper in the core mate.
Rod thanks mate yes I love the look of the clear glass on the tips it makes the tips look like they are floating in the glass so to speak. These pics were just a couple of rushed ones I took I will put up some decent ones on the w/end.

Nice work Kimall,

Do those nobbly bits on the back of the riser really locate your fingers in a better position than a smoother shape. Looks like it might have the same effect as a massur sandal - you might just relax into the shot :)

I really like the clear glass under the nock overlays.

Here is a couple of the limbs..
Thanks for all the comments.
I love the look of finger grooves on a bow and I decided this one was going to be everything I wanted in a bow so even though it does very little to the shooting of the bow ON THEY WENT.With this type of bow you dont hold the bow in the whole hand so to speak you hold it like a compound with just the thumb and 2 fingers so the rest of the grooves are just for show.

Kim looks great and the finish looks good as well. Im glad you like to shoot it as you know with any bow its always a relief when it shoots well after you have spent so much time putting it all together,

Congradulations again.

I was shooting it like this for 2 days even with the fiber glass shards in the had and the feather cuts from shooting off the hand it was fantastic so I was very confident it would be worth the effort. :D

Wow...

That bow looks fantastic Kimall... and you think it needs more dolling up..! It looks great already... :D
I met a guy up at the Hunter Valley shoot this year who had one of Glenns defiants and I was itching to have a shot from it, I heard that are exceptional bows.... but our paths didn't cross again over the weekend.... I will be looking forward to catching up with him again next time...!

Cheers Guy.. :D
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!
