Mystery object - What is it?

#1 Post by Mick Smith » Thu Jul 21, 2005 8:22 pm

I made the object the other day. Sorry about the poor image. It's not actually a photograph. It's a photocopy. I don't have my digital camera yet. You should be able to get some idea of the proportions and the shape. I'll even give you a few hints. The main shaft is actually a part of an old Easton aluminium arrow shaft. The thread at one end is made of stainless steel and is Araldited into the shaft. The flaired bit on the other end is actually an old 30/30 case that's been cut in half. The neck and shoulders of the case have been attached to the shaft. There is some epoxy resin in the 30/30 case and it's moulded into a certain shape.

What could it be? What might you use it for? :?

The first person to work it out or to guess the correct answer receives an elephant stamp on the back of their hand. 8)

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

What's a FIIN?

I'll give you another hint. I didn't make this post in the Tackle Forum, so it's not really archery tackle, but it's certainly related to archery. In fact without archery the object would be usless. 8)

Hold out your hand mate. I'll go and get the elephant stamp. Well done. 8)

Yes, the inside of the empty cartridge is moulded to the shape of a 5/16" snap nock. You simply ram an arrow point first into the dirt, mount the object onto the nock, screw your camera onto the thread and "whoolllaa", you've got a stable and convenient monopod for your camera. Hopefully it will be perfect for my classic game shot with the huge sambar in October, that's if flying pigs don't pinch it in the meantime.

I'de thought it was a stabiliser for your bow...thinking what the hell what you want one on your tradbow for??....

another good idea is to make a strap with a thread for the camera, so you can attahc it to tree branches etc. if theres too loong grass or whatever.

Mick S
Good on ya
Mate I made the same years ago using a 303 or 308 empty shell

I drilled out the primer pocket and put through a 5/16 bolt araldited in
On the sides of the shell at three points around the sides at equal spots I cut with a hack saw three slots which took a broadhead
When a photo was needed you got three arrows with broadheads attached an put them nock to ground broadhead to slot and you had a tripod that would take almost any angle
easy
now all I have to do is find it or make another one

Cheers
